Sonus Networks, a provider of real-time communications technologies, has launched the Sonus WebRTC Services Solution and the core Session Border Controller (SBC) Release 5.0 containing WebRTC capabilities.
"WebRTC is a transformative technology revolutionizing the way businesses reach their customers," said Tony Scarfo, Sonus' executive vice president of product management and corporate development, in a statement. "Sonus' WebRTC Services Solution, combined with the SBC Release 5.0, enables companies to fully leverage WebRTC to innovate and successfully build services and solutions."
WebRTC enables audio, video, and data share communications through a WebRTC-enabled browser, without software plug-ins. The new components of the WebRTC Services Solution include the following:
- WebRTC Gateway: designed to interact with embedded JavaScript applications in the browser to establish WebRTC sessions and provide advanced SIP interworking capabilities.
- WebRTC SDK: JavaScript libraries and application programming interfaces (APIs), including media stream, peer connection, and data channel support for voice, video, IM, desktop sharing, presence, and conferencing.
The Sonus WebRTC SDK enables developers to build new mobile and desktop applications and services for the 2 billion WebRTC-enabled endpoints today. Sonus' WebRTC solution supports iOS and Android smartphones and tablets, native WebRTC-supported browsers (Chrome, Firefox and Opera) and via SDK plugin, non-WebRTC browsers (Safari, Microsoft IE).
The Sonus WebRTC Solution integrates with the SBC Release 5.0, allowing media interworking of the WebRTC Solution with SIP by providing secure media interworking.
